Recently, the last remaining telephone booths in Pawnee were torn down and on that patch of concrete, I am creating Pawnee’s new tourist attraction: the smallest park in Indiana. The title is currently held by Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Terryville, but guess what? Terryville sucks old car tires and so does Martin Luther—no. He does not suck old car tires. He was one of the greatest men in history. I’m sorry. Sometimes I get competitive.

I’ll be a story in your head. That’s okay. We’re all stories in the end. Just make it a good one.

30 Days of New Doctor Who | 08. Favorite Series (Series Five)
This was one of those decisions that I never wavered and hesitated with. What I loved about series five was that it was essentially everything I’ve always wanted this show to be, but never realized it until now. I loved the first four series to bits, I did, but this one really resonated with me. It certainly helped that the cinematography was stunning and we had my favorite Team TARDIS to date. This series was so intricately plotted and self-contained, yet still had that epic New Who scale. To be quite honest, I can’t really explain in detail why I loved this series as much as I did (well, actually, I can, but I won’t here). For me, it was the most consistently good the series has been since it rebooted in 2005.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

30 Days of New Doctor Who | 07. Favorite Episode (“Vincent and the Doctor”)
Yes, I skipped Day 06, which was the least favorite character day. I decided I didn’t need any negativity of that kind on my Tumblr, so I skipped ahead to the next day. With that said, my extreme love for this episode cannot be put into accurate words. It is just perfection. I knew this was going to end up being an emotional episode, but I never imagined that it would have the effect on me that it did. It didn’t glorify depression or devalue Van Gogh’s suicide, in my opinion, but it did give one of the most heartfelt and emotionally real episodes that I’ve seen, especially where this show is concerned. While the alien metaphor was a tad heavy-handed, I can’t even really complain about it, because everything else was so lovely and delightful. I cannot say enough good things about this episode.

She’s my plus one. That all right?

30 Days of New Doctor Who | 04. Favorite Character (The Companions)
So sue me, I cheated on this one. I’ve always been more traditionally attached to the companions rather than the different incarnations of the Doctor. Each companion brings something different to the show and that’s something I can appreciate, because it makes their dynamic with the Doctor unique. It gives the show a fresh feeling whenever there’s a new face aboard. One of my very favorite things is their reactions when they come inside the TARDIS for the first time. And regardless of who your favorites are, the Doctor clearly chooses them for a reason - because they all have their awesome qualities and they’ve saved his ass on plenty of occasions. For better or for worse, I’ve loved them all at some point.

Hey, look at this! Got my spaceship, got my boys - my work here is done.

30 Days of New Doctor Who | 02. Favorite Companion (Amy Pond)
For the longest time I kept debating between Amy and Martha, but I ultimately went with Amy even though I love them both dearly. It’s funny, because I was feeling very nervous about Amy prior to the series beginning because they kept so much of her character under wraps and she was something of a blank slate. But like Martha, whom I also was a little nervous about, she ended up winning me over almost immediately. I love that she deviated from the formula of “every girl” companions that New Who had grown used to. She’s mad and impossible and little bit of an oddity and that’s part of what I love about her. She’s independent and brash, but can also be sometimes childish and selfish. She fears growing up and she’s clearly a bit insecure (hello, abandonment issues!), but acts as if she isn’t. And hey, she also bit four psychiatrists growing up because they questioned her perception of reality and tried to tell her that her raggedy Doctor wasn’t real. I never understood the remarks that Amy has no personality, because for me she’s so fully-actualized and someone I can feel for as a character. I adore Amy Pond and her fierce skirts and stunning hair and silly faces.
